John Foster lives in Scotland and lectures in economics and is head of the Economics Committee of the Communist Party of Britain. He is well known in the Scottish, English and Welsh labour movements and has presented many talks and papers to trade union activists. He has also written extensively on the politics of James Connolly. His most recent work is a pamphlet published in 2009, The Politics of Britain's “Economic Crisis.

In the recent elections for the European Parliament he headed the list in Scotland of the broad-left democratic alliance No2EU—Yes to Democracy.
