This blog has been started to provide an alternative media outlet and information centre for those people interested in and concerned about democracy and justice around the globe. Its aim is to bring to people a communist perspective on global events with a particular emphasis on Ireland.
Read the Socialst Voice over the Christmas. As usual a marvellous read. Even the little bit of humour was welcome.
ReplyDeleteOne thing though that I can't seem to grasp is the pro Turf Cutter line. The government seems to be pursuing a policy of saving small raised bogs.A worthy objective one would have thought. The turf cutters are opposed to this.
Having spent many a summer day on a Tipp bog I know the pleasure that can be got from using a sleain or a spade and I treasure those memories.
But most of these small turf cutters/contractors are far removed from the cutters of old. Many of them use mechanised harvesting machinery that can strip a bog in no time. No conservation or care for the environment here.
One only has to look at the devastation and the photos of the contractors at work and play to know that many of them are not far off the gombeen-cutehoors so beloved of FF & FG.
Strange that the CPI seems to champion this element.!
I may be completely wrong of course and am merely confusing the appearance of the thing with its substance. In which case I apologise in advance.. to Hegel, Marx, the CPI and the turf cutters.
But I can't help wondering?
